Book List #1

I don’t know about you but I like seeing what other people are reading. It gives me some good ideas of what I might want to read next. I recently purchased a few books from Christianbook.com and they just came today. Most of them I got in the imperfect section but there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with them. Always check that section first because you get a great discount! I like me a good discount, especially right after Christmas when I’ve been spending money like a drunken sailor. *hiccup*Winking smile Anyhoo, here are the books.

I actually started reading Fervent last year but there has been such a gap of reading it because of the holidays, I’m just going to start it again, because it is such a good book.

The rest of them are just a little bit of this and a little bit of that. I like variety. I get bored pretty quick so I couldn’t read 4 books on organizing or 4 biographies all in a row. I have to mix it up. I’ll just blame that on my ADD. Smile

My Favorite FREE Indoor Workouts!

I don’t know about you but it’s cold!!! Even for Florida it’s cold and there is no way I’m going outside to workout. No way Jose.

So today I thought I’d share what I personally do on a regular basis to stay fit and healthy INSIDE the comfort of my home. Aside from my diet and stuff. Cause I don’t know about you but I like to switch things up and get new ideas.

New for me last year was starting yoga. It was suggested to me by my chiropractor, but as a former gym snob, I thought yoga was for people who didn’t know how to work out. Ha! BOY oh boy was I wrong. Yoga is quite the challenge. But not knowing where to start I looked on youtube for some inspiration.

I came across Lesley Fightmaster and took her 30 day beginner class. She does a great job of telling you how to do things the proper way so that you don’t get hurt and I’ve stuck with her ever since. She has a nice pleasant voice (which is important to me since I’m going to be listening to her for 20- 30 mins). I love doing this in the morning so I’m all flexible and warmed up.

Normally in the afternoon my sons and I go for a walk outside, but I ain’t doin’ it. It’s cold remember? I missed my walks though. Again, I went to youtube and found Leslie Sansone’s Walk at Home workout. Apparently if you’re name is Leslie, I’ll find you on youtube. Ha! Ha! Anyhoo, I love it. It helps get my steps in without any extra equipment and you don’t need a ton of room. Plus she is so inspiring and fun to listen to. It’s been great!

And for an extra arm workout I do wall push ups. I’m 6 foot tall and even in my fittest of years I could never do a push up or a pull up. So I do wall push ups and I can still feel the burn. Always look for an alternative to a workout, don’t just give up and say you can’t do it. Just do it differently. Make it personal to fit your fitness needs.

So there there you have it. Nothing fancy but it’s working for me right now.

2018 Goals

I’m not one for resolutions but I’m all about setting goals and trying to achieve them. I find it works a whole lot better when I write them down and so I’m going to do that here. Maybe they will inspire you to set your own goals for the year.

1. Meal plan more. I don’t know why I don’t keep up with meal planning. It makes meal time so much easier. I’ve already planned out my first week and making dinner has been a breeze.

2. Work out more consistently. I’m pretty good at working out on a regular basis but during the winter it’s hard to get me out of my robe, let alone workout. I need to just man up and get it done. If you’re interested in the things I do for exercise they are as follows. I do yoga, zumba, Wii Fit, Just Dance, walking outside and free weights. Not all in one day mind you. I mix it up a bit because I get bored real quick. Smile

3. Read my bible more diligently. Instead of reading a lot, I want to read less and absorb more. Does that make sense? Sometimes when I start to read a whole chapter, my mind will start to wonder about half way and I’ve lost myself to the thoughts of the day. It’s the ADD in me I think.

4. Plan more dates with my family. Get them on the calendar and do them.

5. Use my planner that I bought. I’ve tried and tried numerous times to use a planner and have failed every single time. I would usually start out with a bang and then a month or two in it would end up sitting there collecting dust. But this year I found a planner that I’ve already started using and I really like it. 6. Read more! I already have a few books coming in the mail that I want to read this year. At Christianbook.com you can find a lot of books that are slightly irregular for a big discounted price. Plus I got a free shipping deal. Yay! I can’t wait to get started.  I got 6 books for right around $35.00. I’ll post my list in a separate blog post.

7. Blog more. I really miss blogging and every time I say I want to blog more, I don’t. So I want to try to blog more this year. I miss the good ol’ days of blogging so even if no one is reading, it’s always fun for me to look back at our little homestead happenings. Smile

Well that’s about it. Nothing too hard and mind blowing. Totally doable.

Happy New Year~and~ My word for the year!

Happy New Year everyone. I hope you all are doing well. We spent our new years eve with some friends in front of our blazing bonfire in our back yard. We listened to 80’s music, ate some popcorn, talked and just chilled. It was a fun night. Hubby was recouping from a cold so no midnight kiss. Bummer!!

As I thought about this coming year I wanted to pick a word to meditate on through out it. The first word that popped into my mind was CALM. I tried to think of others but “calm” kept making it’s way back into my noggin’. Then I decided to look up the definition of calm and realized that is what I want for this year.

CALM; not showing or feeling nervousness, anger, or other emotions. The absence of violent or confrontational activity within a place or group.

Does this mean I’m never going to get angry or have confrontation? Probably not. This world is full of things that make me angry, but instead I’m going to try and focus on the positive to have that “feeling” of calm in my spirit.

I also thought it was appropriate to pick a verse to meditate on as well. I came up with Psalm 46. Nothing can bring calmness like Psalm 46.

Psalm 46
1 God is our refuge and strength,
an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way
and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam
and the mountains quake with their surging.

4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God,
the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall;
God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall;
he lifts his voice, the earth melts.

7 The Lord Almighty is with us;
the God of Jacob is our fortress.

If you’re having trouble coming up with a word I actually took the DaySpring quiz and this was the word it chose for me. It’s my favorite word in all the world and one I try to think about and act out every day of my life so I didn’t pick it as my “word”. But I loved that it’s the word I got. Smile
