Friday Funnies! High Tech Meets Old School!

friday funnies

Today’s Friday Funny is a real story that happened to me a few weeks ago. I wish you could “see” me tell the story because I act it out so much better. But I’m going to try to write it as vividly as possible without getting too wordy. SmileSo put on your imagination caps people, I’m taking you for a ride. No pun intended.

It all started when we bought a new to us 2009 pick up truck. I’ve been driving a 1999 Expedition for over 14 years and although I still loved it, we needed something that would pull a camper. Well this pick up truck is fancy. At least to me it is. I’ve never been in a vehicle that had so many fancy options with it. It’s taken some getting used to; and some learning on my part. One of those things was learning to sync my phone with the computer. I thought, “Cool, I can just bluetooth my music if I want to.” Cause you know, why else would you sync a phone to your vehicle. *smile* Keep that in mind.

So one particular day, after owning the truck for about a week, I was driving along, listening to my music, probably louder than I should be, when all of a sudden the music dies down, on its own mind you. Then I hear my cell phone ringing through my truck speakers. People, I didn’t know this was possible. I keep my cell phone in my purse and don’t touch it while I’m driving so I kind of panicked. Not in an (oh my goodness I’m gonna crash) way but it caught me off guard. Meanwhile that whole time, I’m trying to figure out how the heck I’m supposed to answer it. So I glance around real fast and see a picture of a phone on my steering wheel. You’d think it would be a picture of a cell phone but it isn’t. It’s a picture of a land line receiver. Ha! Ha! You can imagine my confusion. So I press it and in a confused, I feel really weird, is this really gonna work kind of way, I say, “Hello?” And then my mom’s voice starts coming through the speakers. I don’t even remember why she called because I couldn’t get past the fact that I was just driving and talking to my mom THROUGH MY SPEAKERS. I think I kept telling her that I was talking through my speakers and that she was in my truck and weird stuff like that. I was kinda excited.

To be honest I felt like a kid with a new toy. I had that look of wonderment the whole time this was going on and probably would have scared someone had they seen me. You know in a, sheesh, that lady be trippin’ on something, kind of way.

It all was such a blur that I don’t even know if I hung up. My mom could still be stuck in my speakers. Winking smile

Well there’s my story of me feeling very old school in my high tech truck.

Can anyone relate? Please say yes. Smile

Have a wonderful day my friends.

St. Augustine Part 2: Fun Things to Do!

The first thing you need to do when you go on vacation is to embrace your inner tourist. And I don’t mean socks with sandals and fanny packs. Smile

In St. Augustine they have several trolleys that go through the town all throughout the day. You pay for one day and you can ride free the next 2 days. This is invaluable. Just do it, you’ll thank me later. They make several stops at a lot of the hot spots that you’ll want to see. These are the stops we made; and they’re not in order by trolley number. I’m being a rebel.

1. The Winery (Don’t Judge Smile) Stop #13 on the tour.

This was actually a VERY informational tour. I learned a lot about wine that I didn’t know. When you go in you sit for a short video telling about where and how the local wine is made and then you go to a tasting room and get to sample several of their local varieties. If you have kids, they will give them a sample of their fresh grape juice; which my kids said was awesome.

2. The Old Jail. Stop #1 on the trolley.

We didn’t actually go in the jail because we just didn’t want to pay the extra money but we went in the museum, which is free if you have a trolley pass, and then we walked around the grounds and had fun.

I was naughty so I had to go to jail for a bit. Winking smile

3.  The Churches. Stop #9 on the tour.

If you love stained glass and architecture, then you need to make it a point to stop in the churches on the tour. We went in the Presbyterian and Catholic churches and they are just gorgeous inside. You can tell a lot of time and effort went into building those places.

4. St. George Street. Stop # 8 on the tour.

If you have an itch to shop then get off here. They have tons of shops to explore and places to get a bite to eat.

Unless you want to take a lot of pictures, you can enjoy a lot of the sights just by staying on the trolley, which is what we ended up doing. We rode the whole trolley through the first day and then plotted our trolley course and stops for the next.

5. Where we stayed was walking distance to Castillo de San Marcos or what I like to call, the fort. This is a must do on your vacation. There is such history here. It is so interesting to see and read all that went on back then.

6. Another must do is the St. Augustine Lighthouse. This we had to drive to, but it wasn’t that far. If you are able, you need to walk to the top. It’s quite a workout but you don’t have to rush and there are platforms to stop and catch your breath on the way and even let others pass if need be. But if you can, do.

On this particular day the wind was blowing about 30 mph. We all had to hold on to our hats when we hit the top. And I had the death grip on my phone when I took the picture over the edge. Ha!

There is a lot to do and see here that is all inclusive with your ticket to the lighthouse. Be sure to stroll around and check everything out.

7. The last thing we did while we were there was go putt putt golfing. We had so much fun doing this. It had been years since my hubby and I had gone and the kids had never been. Gasp! I know right?!

By the time we got to the end we were pretty hot but wouldn’t you know they had soft serve ice cream there. That’s good marketing. Ha! Ha! I totally went off my eating plan and shared one with hubby. It was soooo yummy. And in case you were wondering who won, I did. Oh yeah baby!! Momma still got it.

The beaches in St. Augustine are gorgeous. So different from where we live just south of there. But like I mentioned before, it literally blew 30 mph every day we were there. A sandy beach would not have been very fun. But we did stop long enough to prove our point. SmileGorgeous right?

And last but not least we had a blast just chillin’ in the pool at the place we stayed. It was perfect after a tiring day of walking and exploring  to jump in and cool off. The boys loved it.

Well I hope I gave you some fun things to think about when planning your next vacation. You won’t be disappointed if you choose to go to St. Augustine FL.

Let’s recap:

  • Embrace your inner tourist. It’s key. If you must wear a fanny pack then do it. Smile
  • Figure out your budget and how much you have to spend ahead of time and then plan accordingly. The good thing is a lot of the sites are FREE. Yay for free.
  • Go online and check out the trolley system and all it has to offer before your trip. You can check it out HERE.
  • Don’t be too rigid and plan your whole vacation out. Leave some space for relaxing and spontaneity.
  • But most of all, HAVE FUN!

If you’d like to read my first post about where we stayed and what we ate. Go check it out HERE.

Have a lovely day my friends.

Let’s Go to St. Augustine Part 1 Where to Sleep and Eat!

If you’re ever in Florida make sure you make St. Augustine part of your vacation destination. We live in Florida and always feel the need to leave the state for vacation, but on this occasion we decided to stay “local”. By the time you get done reading my posts, you’ll be booking your next vacation here. Smile

  • First of all, find a place to stay. There are literally tons of places to stay. And most are in walking distance to everything! Yay! If it’s just the two of you there are numerous B & B’s right in the heart of town. But because there were 4 of us we decided to rent a house for the few days we were there. This is where we stayed. You can read all about it and see tons of pictures and get prices HERE. Even though this place was surrounded by other homes, the owners went to great lengths to make it feel very private. We would definitely stay there again.

  • Next decide what you are going to do for food. I know this sounds silly but planning ahead really helps when you’ve been walking around all day and find yourself starving. We brought some food to eat while at the house but also did some research online and read reviews about a few places to eat out at and had them on the list to try. All reasonably priced since there are 4 of us to feed.

We ate breakfast a couple of times at Georgie’s Diner. I loved this place. It was so my style. Very 50’s dinerish. This place also knows how to pile on the food.  Because of that, we didn’t have to eat lunch until very late, which gave us plenty of time to explore.

Georgie’s Diner

Another day we ate lunch at a place called Barnacle Bills. YUM! I had the fried shrimp. Oh yeah baby, so good!

Barnacle Bills

And then the last place we ate at was THE best bbq I’ve ever had. Welcome to Mojo’s BBQ! Their Mojo sauce is nothing short of spectacular. The brisket was perfectly cooked and the sides were all outstanding.

  • Now when bringing you’re own food (if not traveling too far away) or if you plan on buying it when you get here, think quick and easy. It’s vacation after all. I still try to eat well on vacation but I definitely let the ol’ diet slide a little too. We brought things like frozen shrimp, ready made burgers and frozen veggies. Breakfast items are easy. Eggs, oatmeal, bacon, cereal etc. If you have a hubby who loves to grill, that’s just a total bonus for the wifey.

Okay, now that we covered places to stay and eat, my next post will be all about things to do and having fun! Yay!!

Have a lovely day my friends.

Friday Funnies! Soccer Shootout!

friday funnies

Well hello everybody. Sorry I’ve been MIA. My whole family and I came down with the flu over the past 2 weeks and it hasn’t been fun, but we’re all good now. Yay!

Todays Friday funny is one I showed to my kids a few days ago. They LOVE soccer and this was just too funny not to share. Even if you don’t like soccer you’ll find it funny. And don’t worry, it’s all done in fun. (You’ll see what I mean when you watch it.)

Now go spread some funny to a world that needs a little laughter.
